From Bill M web page (these are the mods done to this amp):
Basic kit, cream board: to eliminate that boxy sound, take the harsh edge off the distortion tones, add back the "missing" lowest octave of bass and sweeten the clean tones: Orange drop tone stack and coupling capacitors, adjustable bias trimpot, and a power supply stiffening capacitor. The adjustable bias is a high-rel, precision, sealed, 25-turn trimpot for setting your bias accurately. The power supply stiffening capacitor doubles the size of the main filter stage, halves the ripple going to the output tubes, and provides solid bass tones that you'll notice right away.
Presence control: The presence control affects mid-high frequencies and gives the amp more (or less) bite, as shown here: The Presence Control page. I highly recommend this mod--it will give you outstanding control over the amp's aggressiveness, going from hard-edged to mellow. The control has a built-in pull-up switch for the optional Clean Boost.
High-voltage preamp mod:
Brighter, crisper tone, better headroom. This mod replaces four resistors in the power supply and preamp and brings the voltages up to a more typical Fender Blackface level. Highly recommended for green board amps. It works for cream boards too, especially if you're looking for a brighter tone with more clean headroom.
Re-cap Kit -- Blues Junior caps don't last forever. They may leak, or the internal resistance (ESR) goes up over time. The result is mushy tone, oscillation, "tails" on notes and general lack of punch. See herefor what leaks look like. Since the basic kit comes with a single 100uF cap, all you need to finish the job is three 22uF caps.
Aux speaker jack kit: High-quality, all metal Switchcraft jack. The aux jack is in parallel with the main speaker jack and is intended for use with a second 8 ohm speaker or cabinet. It does not cut off the internal speaker.
Low Profile TO20 Output Transformer This brilliant, all-new design is a collaboration between me and David Allen of Allen Amplification, built to our specifications by Heyboer. The output impedance is 8 ohms. Choose this transformer for ease of installation, great performance and occasional use of a 4 ohm external load. The basic mods are essential to get the best performance from this or any other upgrade output transformer.
Twin-Like Clean Tone: TwinStack Mod One of the easiest mods you can do your Blues Junior is to convert the tone stack from standard operation to Twin-style operation. Here's the deal: The Twin is renowned for its bell-like clean tone. Part of that is having enormous power and headroom on tap, but the way the tone stack is wired contributes to the bright, Twin clarity. In the Twin, you can turn the bass, middle, and treble to 1, and get no sound out of the amp--all frequencies are cut off.
The Blackface tone stack, by comparison, started out with just treble and bass--and a fixed mids resistor. No matter how much you reduced the bass and treble, some mid-frequencies are always present. The Hot Rod series of amps, of which the Blues Junior is a member, added a mids control, but in a nod to earlier Blackface amps such as the Deluxe Reverb and Princeton Reverb, turning the mids control to 1 still left a basic amount of mids in the mix.
Don't get me wrong--the Twin is still the King of Clean and no 15 watt amp can pretend to be something it's not. But this mod is dead easy and opens up some very nice tone possibilities. It's a popular mod on the Blues Deluxe, Hot Rod Deluxe and Deville, for the same reason. So try it!
